News Article - Report Back on the 2010 MyBroadBand Conference
21 October 2010
iCubed Technologies attended the 2010 MyBroadband Conference, and found it to be educational, enlightening and entertaining, all at the same time.
We provided live updates via our Twitter feed and Facebook profile, allowing those who could not make it to the conference to keep an eye on what was happening. We believe that we are the first company in Lenasia to have Tweeted and Facebooked a live event, a feat we are very proud of.
Every year, the highlight of the conference is the MyBroadband Awards, and this year was no different. These awards give a good overview of the performance of the various broadband services and ISP accounts on offer, and further indicates how satisfied consumers are with their service providers. Both Cell C and MWEB received very well deserved awards. Read the MyBroadband website for more information on the winners and losers.
The conference also had a huge line-up of speakers who are all well-known industry personalities. Most of them were very well prepared, captivating and provided us with lots of food for thought. In our opinion, the best speakers at the conference were:
- Rudi Jansen of MWEB - great video & presentation about MWEB's new network, uncapped internet, and the companies plans going forward
- Lars Reichelt of Cell C - excellent presentation on Cell C's new 3.75G HSPA+ 900 network and the company's plans for the future
- John Holdsworth of ECN - excellent presentation and discussion on mobile interconnect rates, and the failures of ICASA and the Department of Communications
There were also some very boring and uninteresting presentations. One that deserves special mention is the speech by the CEO of Infraco. We were also rather disappointed at not having won any of the many prizes that were given out, but we will definitely be back next year to try our luck gain.
More importantly, the 2010 Mybroadband Conference has proven to be very educational and enlightening, as it has helped us to improve our understanding and knowledge of the telecomunnications and broadband landscape in South Africa. This allows us to better our understanding of our clients' needs, and thus gives us the ability to fulfil their needs and requirements with the best possible solutions available in the market.
If you missed out on this year's event, be sure not to miss next year's. The 2011 MyBroadband Conference promises to be even bigger, better and more interesting. The telecoms landscape in South Africa is changing fast (for a change) and will be very different a year from now. It will be interesting to see who next year's winners, losers, innovators, performers, mamparas and consumer-champions are.
